Your phone actually has TWO cameras! One faces you as you look at the screen and the other faces what is behind the phone as shown below.
Most phones will open with the camera facing away. But, if the wrong camera is on when you open the phone, tap the little picture of the phone with two arrows in it (as shown to the right) to switch the camera from front to back (away from you).
